The devil in the details (pre-mixing).

Shirk and I started the long and tedious process of mixing last night. Generally, once most of the parts are in place and before vocals, we go in and EQ the drums and bass, tweak the guitar sounds, and start unifying the track a little.

Here’s a sample… a little piece of the song with no title:

In this case, I’m trying to prep a few track for my trip to LA in a couple weeks where I’m hoping to meet up with my old friend Adam Blau to lay down some additional piano and synth tracks.

I think my first gig ever was with Adam in fact, at a YWHA on Long Island growing up. I played horn, him on keys… we played some jazz standards and a couple TV theme songs (anyone remember “Night Court”?). Adam is a composer in LA now, writing for TV and Film, and still one of the best musicians I know, with an astounding gift for writing and arranging.

Here’s a few samples…

I believe this is the intro music for the TV show “Day Break”:

and this is the closing credits music for the Robin Williams movie “License To Wed”:

Great stuff, right? Looking forward to bringing him in again.

I’ll be posting more pre-mix samples as we do em, and the tracks with some Adam once their in.

Steady as she goes.
