Douche Bag.

Played a lousy gig at Uncommon Ground last night.  The live room in the back that, in the past, has had a very nice vibe to it, was dominated by a 20 person birthday dinner… they were so loud I could barely hear myself play.

It is what it is I guess… not the first time I’ve been in one of those situations, and I’ve dealt with worse in the past for sure. And really, there’s no rules about talking it up during shows. But at the end of the night, it turned out that the staff had neglected to pass the tip jar, and then they stuck me with a drink bill at the end of the night to boot.  Classy. I mean, it’s not that I’m playing these little shows for money, but come on….

However, the icing on the cake was this one guy (one of the Birthdayers) who thought it was funny to keep saying “Freebird” during the set. Yes, the “Freebird” guy.

What a douche bag.

But it was still nice to get out and play.  I hadn’t performed since the summertime, so it was nice to get back to it. Also, brought out the Electric for a few songs for the first time.  “Boston” on electric sounded nice I think… the Tele really let the finger picking resonate in a way that the acoustic doesn’t usually.

And I hit some Christmas parties with some friends after the show that helped rebound the night.

Ah, live shows… like a box of chocolates.
