Drove around the block a few times in the car this evening listening to today’s work…
Great day. Worked on “Spinning On”, which is already sounding like the record’s stand-out song. I tightened up the guitar parts and started doing some new voicings and arrangements. Shirk recommended a great pedal vamp for the chorus which really made it sing. We realized today this is the first song without any acoustic guitar that I’ve ever recorded…. the song feels big and bright, with a nice bite to boot.
SO fucking nice to be back at this. I headed back to the office in the afternoon and spent an hour riffing on the EWI over the recording (I got a replacement:) stronger, faster, better). Some real potential there if we can find the right sound.
So anxious to get John and Dave on this… so anxious for you all to hear it!
Heading back Sunday, Monday and Tuesday. Planning on hitting “Mystified and Bruised” again on Sunday and laying down initial stuff for “Taking Time”, and maybe a pass at the acoustic parts for “Down” or “Flora”. Shooting to have guitars in place for 5-6 tunes before Thanksgiving.
WooHoo!

love the new “sketches”. can’t wait for the new record to come out. my freshmen year college roommate gave me grenadine to check out in 2003 and i immediately was hooked. Both Grenadine and Sunrise run are staples in my cd book that stays in my car. Whenever i have it in with friends in the car, they enthusiastically go “who is this?”. keep it up and looking forward to hearing more.
